Outdoor Expeditions

The Way We Walk

  • We approach outdoor leadership with a trauma-sensitive lens and keen eye for fostering social equity in groups. Our approach to group facilitation in the outdoors stems from the "Imagination-Participation-Commitment" (IPC) model designed by Partners for Youth Empowerment. The IPC model holds that imagination and creativity are key elements to successful group formation. When people are using their imagination (creativity), they are already participating; when people are participating willingly they are more likely to commit to the group process.

  • Craft a trip that meets your group's needs. We'll discuss your group's  goals and how to meet them in a developmentally appropriate manner.

  • We offer multi-day trips for charter groups & school groups in grades K-12. Our guides are committed to fostering leadership development, group cohesion, and opportunities for deep nature connection.

  • We teach technical outdoor leadership skills in tandem with mindfulness practices so that each participant's capacity to connect with humanity, Earth, and self in strengthened during our time together.

This six day trip to Joshua Tree National Park for 5th Grade students has become an annual pilgrimage for New Village School. We explore the park's geologic phenomenon and clear night skies, culminating in a professionally guided rock climbing adventure! This car-camping road trip continually supports students' growth and transition into early adolescence.

On this backpacking trip for teens from the Bolinas-Stinson Young Stewards of the Land Program, students swam in clear mountain lakes, gained essential backpacking skills, and reflected on their lives together.
